Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma assured that uninterrupted power supply is being maintained across all regions of the state as per the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) schedule, despite an unprecedented spike in electricity demand this year.
Addressing a state-level grievance redressal session under the ‘SAMBHAV’ initiative in Lucknow, the Minister emphasized zero tolerance towards negligence and corruption. He warned that strict action would be taken against employees who disrupt supply without valid reasons or fail to resolve consumer grievances in time.
“Excuses like lack of power in rural and Bundelkhand areas will no longer be accepted. Frequent shutdowns for minor issues and making consumers run from office to office is unacceptable,” Sharma said. He also directed discom officials to ensure swift resolution of complaints lodged on the toll-free helpline 1912, and to stay in constant touch with public representatives.
Highlighting UP’s transformation in the power sector, Sharma said, “Thanks to the tireless efforts of our employees and management, UP is now supplying more power than even Maharashtra and Gujarat.” He, however, criticized the poor work ethic of a few officials, stating that those who fail to align with the government’s vision or engage in corrupt practices would not be spared.
Key directives issued include:
-
24-hour control rooms in all discoms
-
Regular inspections of affected areas by discom MDs
-
Pruning of trees to avoid tripping during monsoon
-
Vigilance against electricity theft
-
Full efforts for revenue collection
During the virtual hearing, 20 consumers from across the state interacted with Sharma. Issues such as incorrect billing, delayed electrification, low voltage, meter installation, faulty transformers, and wiring hazards were addressed on the spot.
Top officials including UPPCL Chairman Ashish Kumar Goel, MD Pankaj Kumar, discom heads, chief engineers, and senior officials also participated virtually in the session.
